ABOUT ME

Creativity and ingenuity meet

As far back as I can remember, I loved being creative—from turning clay into what was in my young imagination, to quickly becoming familiar with Photoshop, web design and even flash animation while still in high school. A lot of what I know and create with is self taught with education I received high school and college mixed in. For instance, my senior year of high school, I created a 17 minute animation with construction paper and flash. In college, my second dorm room was basically the campus TV station.

I graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School (Mt. Pleasant, PA) and went on to further my education at Bethany College (West Virginia). After college, I started my career working in local news. I started as a web producer, (writing and proofing) at a media company out of West Virginia which operated 4 news stations, a sports entity and a statewide business newspaper. After a year, I was promoted to director of internet operations, a position that managed the entire company’s website content and sales. With this position I educated myself deeper into web design and search engine optimization. With this, I helped push traffic to increase significantly across all websites and helped push the sales department into selling digital advertising. With training and designing advertisements, I helped increase online sales significantly. After working in the news for over 5 years, I decided a new landscape was needed.

My next venture was as the media specialist for a private energy company with operations in several states and countries. This position handled many tasks. Tasks included designing and managing websites, designing advertisements, photographing events, dinners, underground mines, aerial photography, video shooting and editing, managing the company’s digital media resources and even was involved in building a TV production studio for the company. After working here for almost 6 years, the company went into bankruptcy protection and my position was eliminated.

The timing of the elimination of my position  was not ideal since it started at the beginning of the pandemic and after countless applications to job openings, I decided to stop waiting and started my own business, Essington Creative.

    2020-Present

At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, my position was eliminated at my prior employer as part of a bankruptcy and I found myself filling out countless applications with no end in sight.  I decided to take advantage of the situation and started my own business venture.

  • Media Specialist

    Murray Energy Corp.
    (2014-2020)

As the Media Specialist for Murray Energy, it was my responsibility to handle the company’s creative requests ranging from video, photography, web design and graphic design. In addition I also setup equipment for company meetings, dinners and fundraisers and operate the audio and video aspects of the equipment at these events.

As the company’s sole photographer and videographer, specifically, I captured and recorded content for training purposes, sponsored events and for sales to help educate customers on the  process of mining coal. I archived and distributed content to the company's mines, sales staff, management and news outlets when requested.

In 2017, I was involved with a small team to build a broadcast studio in the company's St. Clairsville, Ohio office.  The studio was used for live interviews with major news networks such as FOX, MSNBC, CNBC, BBC, C-Span and others. I prepared the studio for broadcast, helped get talent ready and was the camera operator during live performances.

As the Media Specialist, I helped manage internal meetings and events with audio and video equipment. I transported and set up audio and video equipment at the company's different locations for various meetings.

  • Director of Internet Operations

    West Virginia Media Holdings
    (2010-2014)

As Director of Internet Operations, I managed six websites on both the news and sales sides of the company. With news I worked to improve quality and traffic of our websites, mobile apps and social media. For sales, I worked with staff to help monetize our sites, apps and social media platforms. I designed web banners for clients and I was the sole trafficker/designer of web advertising for the company. I built and managed unique pages on the company’s sites and mobile applications to offer something different than the competition.

I managed our sites and mobile applications through various content management systems and introduced unique ways of covering stories such as live blogging and live chats. I spearheaded sales opportunities and ways to grow the on social media with sponsored contests and studied what worked and ways to improve.

It was a given that multiple projects would be managed in this position, some being day-to-day operations and some projects with a long-term goal. I’ve worked both with teams and alone on projects individually for each of the company’s markets and on company-
    wide projects.

With West Virginia Media I helped consult on various ideas/projects with both news and sales and how to best accomplish tasks. Working in a position that dealt with an evolving medium, I always made sure I was on top of the current trends and changes of internet advertising and digital media. If there’s something I don’t know I take that as a challenge to learn and grow upon.

The websites under West Virginia Media included WTRF.com, WOWKTV.com, WBOY.com, WVNSTV.com, StateJournal.com and
    WVIllustrated.com.
